FIRST LEGO League Jr. Discovery

FIRST LEGO League Jr. is a non-competitive, hands-on STEM program geared towards children ages 6 to 10. Each year, FIRST LEGO League Jr. presents a new and exciting Challenge to ignite the creativity of children. This season’s FIRST LEGO League Jr. Challenge is called MISSON MOON. Teams will begin by learning about the Moon and exploring what kinds of problems they would need to solve in order to live there. As students work, they learn basic engineering and programming skills with LEGO Education WeDo 2.0 and apply those concepts to make their model move. Finally, students will design a solution to one or more of the problems of living on the Moon. All teams will show what they learn by designing and creating a Moon Base, using LEGO® and a Show Me poster.

Mission: Code

Mission: Code is a unique after school experience that allows kids to learn essential coding skills while also engaging in active games and hands-on learning. Kids will develop computational thinking and problem-solving skills in an online game environment where you give a robot a set of instructions to follow in order to solve each level. Every coding session provides kids with a fundamental skill set including algorithms, functions, relative directions and sequences.

The combination of online activities paired with engaging offline activities like scavenger hunts, code-cracking mysteries and team robotics challenges that keep kids active and reinforce coding skills is a winning formula for fun!

Note: Children will need to bring a laptop or tablet with access to Google Chrome to each session. Each student has at-home access to the class content and game for 1 year so that they can continue to play and practice the coding skills they have learned.
